An Intro To Typography

This lesson introduced us to the power and magic of type. Typography is the study, design and application of type.

I had to choose a font that I liked and show it in different letters, including my name. I also had to choose signs that demonstrated good type choice and ones that didn't.

I had to take a quote and using text and colours only, choose a design that conveys the quote.

Grids, layout and flow

This teaches us how to use grids to layout web pages, newspapers. Grids help to provide us alignment when designing documents. We had to find examples of magazines that align to grids. We also had to find one that didn't. I am still searching for that one!

Interpret an apple 100 ways

This task is all about reflecting on what we have learnt so far as well as learning design stamina and getting our creative juices flowing! For me this one is still a work in progress. Watch this space!!!

Negative and White Space cont...

We then had to find examples of where Negative and White space has been used effectively in print or advertising.

Negative Space and Whitespace

Now it is time to learn about negative space and whitespace. Using space in the right way can be a powerful & engaging graphic principle. Negative space is best described as the area surrounding a shape but bound by the framal reference. It's the "hole and the outside" of the donut. Whitespace is simply the absence of artwork in a design. Our task this time around was to interpret three subjects using Negative Space.

Intro to Design Fundamentals.. continued

This lesson encouraged us to explore principals and elements further as the building blocks of design. We then had to use shapes to convey the meaning of words such as order, increase, bold to name a few.
